Arrive in Puerto Maldonado, where our friendly staff will meet you at the airport, bus station, or your hotel. After a quick transfer to our riverfront office, handle registration and bag storage, making sure you only take what you need for your rainforest stay.

Downriver to Amazon Planet Lodge

First Boat Departure: 11:30am | Second: 2:00pm | Third: 5:00pm

Hop aboard a riverboat and glide along the Madre de Dios River, surrounded by lush jungle and an orchestra of tropical wildlife. Marvel at the untouched beauty on your 1 hour 15 minute journey through the heart of the Amazon.

Welcome and Settle In

Arrive: 1:00pm, 3:30pm, or 6:30pm

Arrive at Amazon Planet Lodge, where staff will deliver your luggage straight to your private bungalow. Take a moment to relax and soak in the peaceful rainforest atmosphere.

Lunch & Recharge

Lunch: 1:30pm (first boat) or 1:00pm in town (second boat)

Jungle Orientation Walk

Nocturnal Amazon Magic

6:45pm (for later arrivals)

Embark on a night walk and witness the jungle as it transforms after dark. Spot rare nocturnal critters and feel the rainforest come alive under the stars.

Breakfast and Jungle Canopy Adventure

Be ready early in the morning to begin your day with a hearty breakfast in the lodge, fueling up for a morning packed with exploration.

Into the Treetops

Step onto rainforest trails, winding among towering 300-year-old trees. Your guide brings the jungle to life, sharing stories and secrets of the Amazon as you walk.

Soon, you’ll climb to the Avatar Platform

15 meters high in a stately fig tree, reached by a thrilling suspension bridge. The journey continues to the spectacular Canopy Platform, perched 45 meters up in a giant Lupuna tree, connected by Peru’s longest jungle bridge. From here, the canopy bursts with color as macaws, parrots, and toucans soar by—an unforgettable view! (Approx. 2 hours)

Rescue Center Encounters

Venture deeper into the Taricaya Reserve and visit the acclaimed Taricaya Rescue Center. Witness firsthand the inspiring work of rehabilitating Amazonian animals: jaguars, monkeys, tapirs, macaws, spectacled bears, bush dogs, and more. Each encounter is a unique, moving experience—these animals are being prepared for release back into the wild, not exhibited for entertainment. (Approx. 2 hours)

Lunchtime and Leisure

Lunch at the Lodge Savor a delicious lunch before the afternoon’s slower pace, rest & relaxation Lounge in a hammock, sip a cocktail at the Tunche bar, or rest in your cozy bungalow as the midday heat rolls by.

Botanical Gardens & Sunset River Cruise

Gardens and Self-Guided River Drift, meander through lush botanical gardens and discover medicinal plants, then grab an inflatable boat for a gentle, self-guided float down the Madre de Dios River. Watch the setting sun paint the sky and jungle in gold for 1.5 hours—pure Amazon tranquility enjoy free Time to return to the lodge for a pre-dinner rest, or toast your river adventure with a refreshing drink.

Moonlit Caiman Expedition

In the Evening enjoy a caiman Search with night descending, join your guide for a riveting caiman-spotting cruise along the riverbank. Spot white and black caimans, and admire the stars reflected in the water—the Amazon truly transforms after dark.

4:30am – Sunrise Wake-Up & River Journey, Rise early for coffee and a light breakfast before venturing 45 minutes upriver into the heart of Tambopata National Reserve.

Lake Sandoval Wildlife Quest

Jungle Trek to Lake Sandoval, Begin a 3km trek through the jungle, keeping your eyes peeled for fascinating creatures—anacondas, armadillos, porcupines, vibrant birds, and playful monkeys.

Rowboat on Lake Sandoval

At dawn’s light, glide quietly over the lake’s glassy surface. Your guide paddles you through the mist, visiting the habitats of the giant river otter and the formidable black caiman. This five-hour excursion lets you connect deeply with the Amazon’s wonders.

Snack on the Lakeshore

Pause by the water’s edge for a restorative snack, surrounded by lush scenery and chirping wildlife.

Return Trek & River Cruise

Trek 3km back through the jungle to meet your motorboat and return to the lodge for well-deserved rest.

Lunch & Rest, Enjoy a hearty lunch and relax—take time to unwind after your active morning.

Jungle Arts & Ancestral Skills

Get creative with DIY t-shirt painting using natural jungle dyes—huito, achote, and sangipana—crafting a souvenir to treasure. Afterwards, try your hand at traditional bow and arrow shooting with gear made by the local Ese Eja community, embracing a living Amazon heritage.

Evening of Ceremony and Connection

Ayahuasca-Themed Candlelit Dinner, as evening falls, dine by candlelight while listening to the mesmerizing ICAROS chants of the shaman. Your guide shares the history and spiritual importance of the Ayahuasca ceremony, accompanied by demonstrations (no Ayahuasca consumption, music for ambiance only).

Check Out of Your Bungalow,  Wake up early to the soothing sounds of the rainforest and prepare your bags for departure. Leave your packed bags outside your door for effortless porter pickup—double-check so nothing is left behind!

Breakfast, gather in the lodge for a nourishing breakfast, sharing your favorite moments and saying farewell to newfound friends and staff.

River Cruise Back to the City

Riverboat Journey, Board your boat for the return trip up the Madre de Dios River, soaking in jungle scenery as your unforgettable adventure comes to a close.

Back to Puerto Maldonado

Arrive at the riverside office, collect your stored luggage, and repack if necessary take a breath or reconnect  to WiFi  from your Journey in the Amazon  jungle, take some time to remember you adventure.

Journey to Cusco Begins

Enjoy a transfer from the port to the Puerto Maldonado bus terminal. Board your comfortable overnight bus to Cusco, where the Andean adventure continues.

Upon arrival in Cusco, make your own way to your hotel—full of memories from your extraordinary Amazon escape.
