Welcome to the Amazon 

Upon landing in Puerto Maldonado, you’ll be greeted at the airport or bus station and whisked away to the Monte Amazonico Lodge office for a quick orientation before your rainforest adventure begins!

River Journey to the Lodge

Hop aboard a boat for a scenic hour-long ride down the Madre de Dios River. As you glide through lush rainforest, get your first taste of Amazon magic before arriving at the welcoming lodge. Enjoy a fresh regional fruit juice and settle into your cozy room.

Monkey Island Adventure 

After lunch, set out for Monkey Island, just across the river from your lodge. Explore this lively sanctuary, home to playful squirrel monkeys, curious brown and white capuchins, and energetic saddleback tamarins—all free-spirited and ready to delight.

Nighttime Caiman Search 

As night falls, grab your flashlight and embark on a guided riverbank search for caimans, the stealthy crocodilians of the Amazon. With a bit of luck, you might spot the massive capybara—the world’s largest rodent—before returning to the lodge for a hearty dinner and restful night.

Lake Sandoval Wildlife Safari & Night Walk

Rainforest Awakening & Breakfast 

Wake to the sounds of the Amazon and fuel up with an early breakfast, preparing for an extraordinary day of jungle exploration.

Jungle Trek to Lake Sandoval 

Embark on a short boat ride to the Sandoval Lake trailhead. After clearing the checkpoint, hike 3 kilometers (approx. 2 miles) through lush rainforest, keeping an eye out for wildlife amidst towering trees and tangled vines.

Lake Sandoval Wildlife Expedition 

Arrive at the stunning Lake Sandoval, a sparkling jewel of the Tambopata National Reserve and home to legendary piranhas. Glide across the tranquil waters in a rowing boat, guided by your expert naturalist to spot rare and fascinating wildlife: colorful hoatzins, sleek cormorants, graceful jacanas, majestic eagles, playful monkeys, and maybe even a sloth lounging in the treetops. With luck, you’ll encounter giant river otters—up to two meters long—and possibly glimpse the Amazon’s largest alligator!

Jungle Lunch & Relaxation

Return to the lodge to savor a typical Amazonian lunch—bursting with local flavors—before resting and reliving the morning’s adventures.

Nocturnal Nature Walk 

As darkness falls, venture out on a guided night walk to witness the Amazon alive with nocturnal creatures. Listen to the symphony of insects, discover elusive amphibians and reptiles, and marvel at animals that rule the rainforest after sunset.

Dinner & Well-Deserved Rest 

End your action-packed day with a hearty dinner and a peaceful night’s sleep at the lodge.

Canopy Sunrise and Farewell to Amazon

Dawn Canopy Adventure 

Begin your day before sunrise on the thrilling Canopy Walkway. Suspended 30 meters high, cross hanging bridges through the treetops for a truly unique rainforest perspective. From panoramic platforms, gaze out over the jungle and the winding Madre de Dios River. Watch for vibrant toucans, majestic macaws, and a chorus of other exotic birds as the forest awakens beneath you.

Jungle Breakfast 

Descend from the canopy and gather for afinal delicious Amazonian breakfast at the lodge, savoring flavors and sharing stories from your adventure.

Return to Civilization 

Bid farewell to the Amazon as you journey back to Puerto Maldonado, carrying with you memories of stunning wildlife and untamed rainforest beauty.
